At YBC we have long since believed that the 6 million strong community of self employed people and director led businesses are ignored by government.

The outbreak of Coronavirus has rammed that home loud and clear.  Legislation was quickly put in place to pay employees £94.25 per week Statutory Sick Pay from Day 1 of absence instead of Day 4. Their employer will pay them and be reimbursed by government.

The self employed have no such luxury and have to claim welfare benefit and are eligible for just over £71 per week.

Both sums are paltry and won’t pay the bills but why are the two sectors being treated differently?

If you are proud to work for yourself and agree that this is discrimination please SHARE this post using the hashtag #IAmSolo

The best way to go it alone is not to go it alone. Together we can get one another a better deal.
