Public Health England – #BetterHealth Campaign
With Public Health England launching their “Better Health 2020” campaign, now has never been a better time to look at your health and your nutrition. It is brilliant news that the government is taking action and recognising the implications of obesity and ill health on the nation. The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on this even further by impacting obese victims with more tissue damage than others due to the immune response overdrive. As well as lockdown increasing the nations habits to “reach for the snacks” through boredom or to relieve anxiety or stress symptoms.
But to become healthier, you must want it for yourself. It is great that this campaign has been launched as it will hopefully open some eyes to what the health implications of obesity can mean. But behaviours cannot be controlled as you have to want to change to be successful in any weight management programme.
So, once you’ve made the decision to examine your health and relationship with food, what then? Public Health England have advertised 3 “weight management” providers. Which many people have success with. But there can be more power working with a nutrition professional or weight loss coach on a one-to-one basis. Someone that can listen to your challenges, and work WITH you to make changes that you can stick to for life.
I believe, education and understanding are key to a successful lifestyle change, and the need for individual, personalised advice/programmes. Every single one of us is unique, and our bodies all have their unique way of working. Once this is understood, and the work is undertaken to understand your body and its little idiosyncrasies, you are halfway there!
