A warm weather hazard

As the warm weather approaches our thoughts started to turn to the summer activities such as visits to the coast.
Last year a school organised a year end of term trip for students to celebrate completing their exams. This should have been a light hearted celebration but it ended up being a tragedy, as one of the students sadly drowned.
When organising trips or managing at work in, near or a groundwater, the organisers of those activities have a legal obligation to manage the health and safety of participants and employees.
Eureka training provides training to help duty holders discharge their legal responsibilities when activities by around inland or coastal waters.
The RLSS national water safety management programme (NWSMP) is a course designed to assist duty holders understand the hazards associated with the inland and coastal waters, and is ideal for those organising school trips, youth club activities and work activities in, near and around water.
Drowning – the statistics show that the summer months have the number of drownings and that a third of those who drown never intended to get in the water in the first place.
