Sales experts will tell you to lower your costs to increase your profit, that it is easier to sell to an existing client than to find a new one and to seek referrals. All of these are worthy of attention and should be tested for their suitability to your product or service.

‘People buy from people’ is a mantra often trotted out by old school sales managers but it is more true to say that people buy from people they trust. So, let’s assume you provide something that people want and that you exude trustworthiness it is a logical to draw the conclusion that you need to meet more people. All of the strategies mentioned above, and a lot more besides, can lead to meetings to prove yourself but it is also well worth considering, or reconsidering, networking and exhibiting.

Both of these provide opportunities to meet lots of potential clients but the key to success is not to rush into a sales pitch. Finding some common ground and building a relationship allows you to be yourself and gain trust. However, there are lots of different networking events and business exhibitions so time needs to be taken to establish what is right for you.
